Resumption of The IPL
There are many things we take for granted , such as the daily food , the clothes on us , or the roof under which we sleep . One such was the Indian Premier League for the cricket fans . Started in 2008 , this tournament has been a mainstay in the cricket scene , drawing interest from not only Indians , but cricket fans from all around the globe .
It is no exaggeration that the IPL is a prime spot to search for talent , especially for India ( but in rare cases also for other cricket-playing nations ) . The opportunity to share a dressing room , net sessions and to practice with accomplished players all across the globe serves as a great learning mechanism , further improving players in the already large talent pool that is the domestic Indian scene . Many people who otherwise do not have any interest in cricket also tune in to watch these matches . Such is the allure of the event .
But this event was canceled mid-way in its 2021 edition , due to the rise in corona virus cases within its circles , and then it was postponed . It has resumed today , with the first match set between Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings , a rivalry which ran deep and fierce , and will probably run as such for years to come . CSK started off with one of its worst ever starts , crumbling at 24/4 in 6 overs , with Ambati Rayudu gone back due to an injury making it effectively 24/5 . But it was Ruturaj Gaikwad and Dwayne Bravo who steadied the ship to post a competitive target of 156 . In reply MI was restricted to 136/8 , losing by a significant margin of 20 runs . It was not a batting disappointment by Mumbai ,but the collective effort of the pace bowlers who effectively strangled their batsmen as they were not getting runs , and getting out trying to hit big shots in desperation .
It was always going to be an uphill task , as both Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya were not in the squad and Pollard as the captain of the team , but given the start they got , not even the staunchest Chennai believer would have expected such a result . It was truly a team effort , and I believe that IPL 2021 could not have started on a better note . It was a match where the better team won , playing the complete game . I hope that the rest of the games would be as exciting , if not more . Have a great week ahead !
